GATE 2019 Eligibility Criteria – General

 The candidates will be required to meet the following eligibility criteria of GATE 2019 to attempt the examination.

 Nationality

  • Indian national candidates will be eligible for GATE 2019.

  • Candidates belonging to Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) will also be eligible to appear for GATE 2019.

Academic Qualifications 

  • Candidates should have completed their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree (M.Sc) in any relevant science subject or must be in the final year of the programme.

  • While applying for GATE 2019, there is no minimum pass percentage in the qualifying degree.

Age Limit - There is no age limit for applicants of GATE.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2019 – Documents to be Uploaded

  • The eligibility criteria certificate had to be uploaded in the application form as applicable. It does not have to be sent through the post.

  • If the candidate was pursuing any higher degree or has already obtained a higher degree than mentioned in the table, then the candidate could select the minimum required qualifying degree while filling the application form.

  • If a candidate has completed one of the qualifying examinations as mentioned in the table in 2018 or earlier, then he/she had to submit the degree certificate/provisional degree certificate/course completion certificate/membership certificate as issued by the society or institute.

  • If the candidate is expected to complete the qualifying criteria in 2019 or later as mentioned in the table above, then he/she had to upload their Provisional Certificate Letter (as issued by the Head of the Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department) or a copy of marks card for Section A of AMIE, etc.

  • Candidates with backlogs (failed subjects) in any of the subjects in their qualifying examination had to upload a copy of any of the mark sheet of the final year issued from the institute where he/she was studying. It has to be noted that internet downloaded mark-sheet will not be accepted under any circumstances.

  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST category had to upload a valid document proof to get a concession in the application fee. Only those certificates which are issued by authorized officials will be recognized.

  • PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category candidates were required to upload a PwD certificate issued by a recognized authority. The benefit of the concession of application fee was provided to those candidates who have at least 40% impairment irrespective of the kind of disability. The certificate also had to be submitted to the allotted institute during the time of admission.

  • Dyslexia candidates had to provide a certificate stating the same issued by authorities in order to get the services of a scribe.

GATE 2019 Eligibility Criteria for M.Tech Admissions

For M.Tech admissions into IITs, NITs, IIITs, and some CFTIs, the candidates are required to qualify GATE 2019 examination. Since there is no counseling process through GATE, the candidates will have to apply separately according to where they wish to get admission. If the candidate wishes to get M.Tech admissions into IITs, then he/she will have to register through COAP. After applying individually to all the preferred IITs through COAP, the admission offers will be allotted from which the candidates will have to select. Similarly, for admissions into NITs, IIITs and some CFTIs, the candidates will have to apply through Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT).
